EYE BANK FOUNDATION TO LAUNCH E-PLEDGE FORM, 2ND NATIONWIDE POSTER MAKING CONTEST

Manila, Philippines – October 16, 2015 will mark 20 years since the Eye Bank Foundation of the Philippines (EBFP) inaugurated its medical eye bank; and 20 years of commitment to transforming lives through restoring sight.
The Eye Bank Foundation is dedicated to the alleviation of corneal blindness, which remains among the top 5 causes of blindness worldwide and one that is among the most difficult to address, due to the scarcity of transplantable corneal tissues globally. Through its medical eye bank known as the Santa Lucia International Eye Bank of Manila, the EBFP has, since 1995, made precious corneal tissue available and accessible to people in need of corneal transplants throughout the Philippines.
As part of this milestone year, the EBFP is launching two new projects which will be a part of the countdown towards October 16, 2015: the electronic donor card and form and the Eye Bank’s second poster making contest themed “A journey’s end, a gift of hope, a new beginning…”.
The EBFP is set to pioneer the first ever Electronic Pledge form and Tissue Donor Card in the Philippines. The project is designed not only to increase awareness and acceptance of eye and/or cornea donations, but, equally important, to make it more convenient for people to sign up as cornea or eye donors.
Starting March 17, 2015, people simply have to visit the Eye Bank’s website www.eyebankphil.org and follow easy steps in order to fill up an electronic pledge form and avail of a donor card.
After the successful first nationwide Poster Making Contest of the Eye Bank Foundation in 2007 which produced numerous artworks still being used today to help promote the foundation’s advocacy, the EBFP announced another contest that will run from March 17, 2015 to August 31, 2015 (Extended), with awarding of winners to be held on October 16, 2015.
The theme of the Poster contest is “A journey’s end, a gift of hope, a new beginning…”, in reference to the gift of hope that donors give others at the end of one’s journey here on earth through the act of cornea or eye donation; as both the recipient and the donor begin new lives; one still on earth and the other in the afterlife.
12 artworks that successfully encapsulate the theme will be selected and these works will be reproduced as official posters of the Foundation. The posters will then be prominently displayed in hospitals, health centers, partner organizations, schools, malls, and other institutions that help in the thrust and advocacy of the EBFP. The winning designs will also grace various products and merchandise of the Eye Bank and future partners through which funds may be generated to help support the EBFPs mission.
Of the 12 winning entries, the best entry adjudged as most creative wins PhP 50,000.00, first runner up gets PhP 25,000, 2nd runner up wins PhP 15,000.00, while honorable mention winners receive special prizes. A special award of Php 10,000.00 will be given to the the People’s Choice winner as voted by the public.
The Foundation is also inviting netizens to follow it on social media and join its “EyePromise” campaigns which it hopes will be informative and fun, and most importantly, will encourage all to become eye or cornea donors in order to share the gift of sight with those in need of sight restoring transplant surgery. Fb.com/eyebankfoundation is the EBFPs official Facebook page and @eyebankph is its official Twitter and Instagram account.
